Jill Lenz, Chair, started the meeting at 9:30 am
Jill suggested establishing a policy to approve minutes from the previous meeting and approve the agenda for the current meeting at the beginning of each webmaster meeting. This new procedure received general approval.
Following the newly established procedure, meeting minutes from the December 9, 2008 meeting were approved, as was the agenda for the current meeting.
Jill announced that a new version of the Web Control Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) has been established by the W3C organization. She explained that this is a standardized guideline for web page design/programming. The new guidelines can be found at this link: http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/
Judea presented information on the CVMBS Office of Development’s online Giving page. This page will be reformatted, probably within the next two months. Many of the links to departmental and program Giving pages will be removed, with only the 3 or 4 most important College programs remaining. Departmental and program webmasters should make sure that links for Giving on their web pages link directly to their individual “Giving” pages rather than the main Development page: (https://advancing.colostate.edu/csu.asp?VETMEDMASTER)
If you would like a new individual Giving page established, please contact either JoEllen Linderer or Judea Franck.
Judea also suggested that it would be good for placement of the Giving links on departmental and program pages to be consistent throughout the College.
Discussion revolved around the various terms that are, and should be, used for “Giving.” Judea said that, at this time, the terms “Giving,” “Give to the Department of ….,” or “Make a Gift” are preferred to the terms “Advancement,” “Development,” “Donate,” or “Support.”
Judea sent a document to the members via the listserv after the meeting. It is available at online for reference.
Jill provided several suggestions of possible topics / presenters for upcoming webmaster meetings.
Next month’s meeting will feature Meg Wilson, new CVMBS Director of Strategic Initiatives presenting CVMBS web standards, Don Zimmerman's "Exploring PVM Student Web Site Usage," and possibly other topics.
Jill and Larry provided information on Meg Wilson’s background and the position she now holds with the College.
After discussion, Jill’s other ideas were all approved for future meetings:
In addition, a suggestion was made to meet with a representative from Squarei once or twice to learn more about their design process and to look at prototype pages when they are ready.
