Old Business

Sallie - Faculty Page Paper Prototype presentation

Sallie showed an example (mock up here in PDF) of the faculty page design we have so far and explained the discussion and reasoning behind the design.

Faculty Basics

The faculty member’s picture would appear in the upper left corner with name, title, phone, office and email information immediately to the right of the picture.  The VTH faculty page would show the hospital switchboard number and the hospital address as clinicians don’t want to be contacted directly. Their email will be listed.

Degrees

This will contain professional degrees. The suggested order is lowest to highest, listing the university name but no year.

Certifications

Professional licenses or certifications that are in addition to the degree.

Optional Info

In the following 4 sections, the content will be provided by the faculty member.

If a section has no content, it will not be part of the page, in order to eliminate blank space.

Selected Publications

If available based on a unique name, we would have a link to PubMed for the faculty member. Then, a list of no more than 10 publications or 5 years history. These can be representative. The faculty member’s name in the list of authors will be bold.

Mailing address

Ground mail address for department and office.

General layout

All sections will be left aligned.

Presentation wrap-up

Sallie said the group still needed to fine tune some things and write up all the details for the standards document and provide code samples for the PubMed search for someone that may have published under a maiden and married name and opening a link in a new window.

New Business

Jill - Homework for committee members

Jill asked members not involved with the faculty page prototype to think of 18 tasks or things to do related to locating information and navigating the CVMBS Web site as a member of the "Staff" user group. Judea offered to do the same as an "Animal Client". Please document the tasks, the steps (links) followed and the resulting URL. This will help Don Zimmerman and his team for the next cycle of usability testing where a user is asked to perform timed tasks using the CVMBS Website.

Some examples would be:

  1. You are a staff member at the VTH planning holiday travel and need to find the VTH's schedule or calendar. Where would you go? (Provide the correct answer/URL for the usability observer to know if the user is on the right track or not.)
  2. You are a staff member on main campus and need to know the purchasing guidelines for a new computer for your office. Where would you go?
  3. Someone asked you what the "Path of Honor" is. What Web link could you send them to?

After the Meeting Notes

The November meeting is cancelled. Please use this time to:

  1. Finalize and email your homework to me at jill.lenz@colostate.edu
  2. Work on validating your HTML pages

December Meeting: Don Zimmerman and Teresa Yohon will attend to discuss the recent homework assignments, how they contribute to their usability process and answer any questions you may have for them regarding the consulting they have provided.

Meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.

Minutes submitted by Merry Wright.
