WEBMASTERS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

December 14, 2004

Members present: Jamie Bethel, Marty Fettman, Tom Harmon, Charlie Kerlee, Jill Lenz, Mary Pridgen, Linda Tarnoff, Sallie Varner

Jamie Bethel, Chair, began the meeting at 9:00 am.

Old Business

  1. Jamie reported on server cleanup. He used Dreamweaver's Link Checker to generate reports of broken links and orphaned files. These reports were forwarded to webmasters to review and clean up. Many old files were deleted which greatly reduced the number of total files and broken links. Some files and folders were reorganized, for example some Development Office pages were moved from /cvmbs to /development as JoEllen Linderer has taken on webmaster duties for the Development Office.

    * Reports not totally accurate - too many variables. There is still more to do. Jamie will continue to review.

New Business

  1. Addition to the CVMBS website – request from Linda Tarnoff to add an HTML version of the College brochure to the website. Jamie mentioned most feedback was to include a link to this from the College Home Page. Jamie showed three different versions of the College Home Page with the link in various positions. The majority agreed it should be in the bottom right with the same spacing between it and the "Weekly Seminars" as is between the "News Archive" and "Photo Gallery" links below it. Linda will email the word document with corrections and updates to the College Brochure for everyone to review and let her know if it is OK to publish.

  2. New page footer using JavaScript.

  3. Jill: CSU Campus Web Access Policy was officially approved. The official version is at http://accessibility.colostate.edu/. The next step for the committee is to publicize the new policy and educate campus-wide training departments such as CTSS and OIS on how to incorporate accessibility into their web design and WebCT training. There will be a PDI session titled "The New CSU Web Access Policy" on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 from 3:00 PM - 4:50 PM in A202 Clark. Registration is on a First come\First serve basis. Seating for classes is limited to the classroom size so please register early. For more details on the session and online registration, please see https://ctssblue.ctss.colostate.edu/registration/reg_home.asp?iDepartment=28

  4. New Faculty page at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/News_items/new_faculty_fall04/index.htm was reviewed for typos, spacing and missing links. Jamie will fix.

  5. The new SpamCanner software recently installed by ACNS was discussed. In general, everyone thinks it is doing a good job. Outlook users mentioned the daily SpamCanner message ends up in the Junk folder. Tom Harmon mentioned that you can add SpamCanner as a "good" sender so it will end up in your inbox instead.

  6. PVM - Professional Veterinary "Medical" or "Medicine"? Dr. Fettman confirmed it is "Medical". Some pages with conflicting info:
    1. The Fall 04 PVM Coursebook at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/CoursebookFall.pdf is titled with "Professional Veterinary Medicine - Course Outlines "
    2. (PVM) Schedule -- 1st - 4th year http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/pvmschedule.pdf is titled with "Professional Veterinary Medicine Curriculum"
    3. Tom Harmon mentioned the Administrative Services' University Acronym List at http://www.colostate.edu/Admin/acronyms/acronyms.html. It lists PVM as "Professional Veterinary Medicine".
    4. There may be more occurrences. A Find and Replace in Dreamweaver could clean up any HTML pages that need to be changed. PDF files will have to be individually changed.

The meeting concluded at 9:42 am.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 11th, 9:00-10:00 am, W1 A/Z.

Minutes submitted by Jill Lenz.
