WEBMASTERS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

April 13, 2004

Members present: Jamie Bethel, Tom Harmon, Charlie Kerlee, Jill Lenz, Erin Napier, Mary Pridgen, Linda Tarnoff, Sallie Varner. Guest Paul Maffey, Director of Development.

Sallie Varner, Chair, began the meeting at 9 am.

New Business

  1. Paul Maffey, Director of Development for CVMBS, attended the meeting to discuss his proposal of a permanent link on the College Home Page, at least for the next five years, similar to the link on the Development page that reads "The South Campus Expansion - Building A Veterinary Medical Center for the 21st Century" which would link to the URL http://veterinarymedicine.colostate.edu and include a changing picture on a regular basis. Paul mentioned he has many pictures available for this. This site was designed by Chris Weller from University Relations and Paul mentioned that even more interactivity will be added. The site design matches the glossy full size multi-page brochure that Paul brought as samples for the group to review. Paul stressed this $75 million project is the number one priority for the college for the next 5 years. If this should change, the link could be removed. The committee discussed the proposal and agreed this would be an appropriate addition. Sallie will mock up a sample aiming to use the available space in the bottom left area of the page.

  2. Charlie has been working on finalizing the VTH web site. He has a new domain at http://csuvets.colostate.edu/ and has reorganized/updated the content of at least 4-5 pages and added lots of new pics. It was noted that the CSU Vets Home button on page http://csuvets.colostate.edu/saclinic.htm overlapped the paragraph of text above it when the text size was set at larger or largest. Jamie said this is due to the use of layers in Dreamweaver. Jamie encouraged Charlie to update the link to WebCT from http://webct.colostate.edu/webct/public/home.pl to the quicker loading URL at http://webct.colostate.edu/webct/public/home.pl?action=print_home. Others mentioned this can be quickly done on an entire site with Dreamweaver's Find and Replace command.

Old Business

  1. Sallie changed the PRSE listing for the Orthopaedic Research Center to Musculoskeletal Research Program that points to an umbrella page for the three sections of this PRSE, two of which currently have web pages: http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/musculoskel.htm. Charlie has built a page for Dr. Turner's Ruminant Orthopaedic Research Program, designed a new logo and requested content, basically the mission statement, from Dr. Turner. The page should be done soon.

  2. Question about whether the MCIN Program homepage should continue to be a link from the PRSE's on our Home Page since it's not technically in our College? Linda talked to Dr. Fettman, who replied that this is an interdisciplinary program and, since CVMBS helps to fund MCIN, it should remain as a PRSE link on the CVMBS home page.

  3. CETT Page at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/enhealth/cett/ had broken links and images. Tom has corrected the problem with the broken links.

  4. CICRC home page at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/enhealth/CICRC/ lists that they are in the Department of Psychology at the bottom of their page yet they are listed under Outreach Services on the College Home Page and under Lab Services on the ERHS Lab Services Page. Are they part of our College and worthy of a link from the College Home Page or not? Tom talked to Loranne Stallones. She said that 25% of her money is still in CVMBS. However, starting July 2004 she will be working to move the CICRC web site somewhere else. So, for now it should remain where it is.

The meeting concluded at 9:39 am.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 9:00-10:00 am, W1 A/Z.
