Members present: Jamie Bethel, John Chandler, Tom Harmon, Charlie Kerlee, Jill Lenz, Erin Napier, Mary Pridgen, Linda Tarnoff, Sallie Varner.
Sallie Varner, Chair, began the meeting at 10 am.
Old Business
Jill - Update on requests from Ken Blehm, which we discussed at our previous meeting. Ken has communicated with Erin Fendrich and Ruth White from Career Services to contact Sallie Varner with information/text blurb and preferred dates twice a year to showcase their services on the College Home Page under the "In The News" section and to contact Mary Pridgen regarding photos of them in counseling situations. They will also be contacting Jill for redesign support after spring break. Jill forgot to report about Ken's other request for an "Awards" photo and link on the College Home Page: "I withdraw this suggestion at this time. I do not see a way or manner of making this suggestion feasible at this time. I appreciate the consideration but withdraw the request."
PRSE revisited - per Carol Borchert, Insight Editor:
1) Orthopaedic
Research Center is really one of three sub units of the Musculoskeletal
Research Program. Need to change flyout on home page, the underlying
PRSE listing page and create a new page for Musculoskeletal Research
Program with links to the three units. See the latest Insight article
about this at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/Insight/2004/02/prse.htm.
Sallie will create the umbrella page for the three units. Charlie will
check with Dr. Turner about creating a page for the
Comparative Ruminant Orthopaedic Laboratory and Dr. Wheeler about linking to
the page in Bioengineering Resources we found at http://www.engr.colostate.edu/bep/ortho/ or
creating a new one.
2) "Program of Infectious Diseases" has been changed by Sallie to "Infectious
Diseases Program".
3) The MCIN Program - MCIN is headquartered in the College of Natural Sciences,
though the majority of its faculty affiliates are from CVMBS. Should this continue
to be a link from PRSE's on our Home Page since it's not technically in our College?
Linda will ask Dr. Fettman.
CETT Page at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/enhealth/cett/ has broken links and images. Tom offered to correct the links for Linda Monum and did so promptly after the meeting.
New Business
CSU web portal -- informational sessions held February 5-6. Most of the CVMBS webmasters attended. How will this project affect us? Larry Cobb is on the Content Management team. Tom mentioned Larry is helping with the technical end and reviewed the portal with Network Services staff. Not sure of the current status. Jamie is the training contact and mentioned there is talk of "channels" for college information but would need to be programmed into the portal. Just a reminder that our web pages won't be affected by the portal project. The portal is for students, faculty and staff to access all their electronic systems in one place. It won't affect outside audiences.
Visit Colostate web page -- http://visit.colostate.edu/ . Linda Tarnoff suggested discussing whether we might have a use for this sort of page for CVMBS. Everyone agreed it is a professional-looking publicity page with several short fast-paced MTV-style videos of current students at CSU, something that would be neat to have tailored to our College. There is already one movie about Veterinary Medicine. Jill will mention the idea to Paul Maffey and the Development staff who are currently working "in the spirit of cooperation" (no charge) with University Relations on a new look for their home page and second level pages. Jill is also assisting with information reorganization and Dreamweaver training.
Network Services is changing their name to Computer Resources Group. Jill asked if they wanted to start identifying themselves as that in their web presence and if they would rename their directory from /netserv to /crg. Tom Harmon said he would most likely work on updating the web pages during spring break. Jill prepared a new top navigation banner for them at the bottom of this page http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/webmaster/800x600/topnav.htm Once changed, the home page flyout under Computing and the underlying page can be modified with the new name. On a side note, Tom mentioned he was learning web system administration duties from Joe Strecker who will eventually move to the VTH for medical records/billing programming. Joe also used to handle the WebTrends reports and Tom will check on the status of that responsibility as Careers Services may want to monitor information from the WebTrends reports in the near future. Tom also mentioned that a new web server has been budgeted for next fiscal year.
CICRC home page at http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/enhealth/CICRC/ lists that they are in the Department of Psychology at the bottom of their page yet they are listed under Outreach Services on the College Home Page and under Lab Services on the ERHS Lab Services Page. Are they part of our College and worthy of a link from the College Home Page or not? Discussion concluded that this was a gray area. Tom Harmon volunteered to call Lorann Stallones for clarification. Tom found out from Lorann that there is still a 25% connection between the departments, however, they do plan to eventually move their pages to the Psychology Department web server. We will leave as is for now.
Announcement for Vet Hospital Open House? In the past we had rotating images of the kids' pictures. It was agreed we should publicize with images and a short blurb again. Linda will check with Jenger Smith for newer pictures and Sallie has the rest ready to post.
The meeting concluded at 11:00 am.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 9:00-10:00 am , W1 A/Z.
