Webmaster Committee Meeting Minutes
September 10, 2002
Members Present: Jamie Bethel, John Chandler, Charlie Kerlee, Jill Lenz, Mary Pridgen, Erin Napier, Linda Tarnoff, Sallie Varner
Departmental Home Page Redesign Progress -- Mary Pridgen announced that she is ready to go live with the new Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (/erhs) home page and website. That website was viewed and committee members agreed that it is ready. Sallie Varner has moved the Biomedical Sciences web pages to the new /bms URL. Jill will update the College home page and Linda Tarnoff will update the Department listing page to reflect these changes. All departmental top level pages now have the new look.
There was a brief discussion concerning format of departmental pages at levels below the top level.
Committee Member Update -- Carol Moth and Mary Pridgen will continue to share the work on maintaining ERHS pages. MIP thought it was appropriate, with the departmental merger, that there be only one committee representative and that will be Erin Napier. Thanks to Sallie Hilligoss for her past work on the Microbiology website and the transition to the new MIP website.
A question was raised concerning the new HTML programming software that has been proposed for the College. A demo was to have been scheduled for July or August, but nothing ever happened. Members requested that someone contact Dr. Fettman to request his attendance at the Committee meeting next month so that we can discuss this subject with him.
Announcement from Ken Blehm -- Reminder that from this point on, there has been a name change from "State Board of Agriculture" to "Board of Governors -- Colorado State University System." All web pages should reflect this change where appropriate.

Permanent Addition to College Home Page -- Requested by Megan Zweegman and Dean's Office staff to add "For appointments/Veterinary services, call the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital: (970) 221-4535" to help direct callers to the appropriate facility. Jill has already made the change to help reduce the number of calls transferred. Committee members agreed this addition was appropriate.
Dreamweaver Demonstration -- Jill Lenz presented a brief demonstration on how to generate Dreamweaver reports to identify broken links and missing ALT tags. Access "Reports" under the "Site" menu command found in the Document menu bar and the "Site Files" menu bar. After the "Missing Alt Text" report is "Run," use the "Open File" button to go to the file and add the Alt attribute with the Properties box. Remember to save the file. After the "Check Links Sitewide" report is run, review the summary at the bottom of "Link Checker" dialog box. Gives "File info:" how many files total exist in your site, how many are HTML files, how many are orphaned or with no page linked to them. Also gives "Links info:" how many total, OK, broken and external.
Election of Committee Chair -- Linda Tarnoff nominated Sallie Varner. Mary Pridgen seconded the nomination. Sallie was unanimously elected Chair. Many thanks to Jill Lenz for her excellent work as Chair this past year -- a particularly time-consuming job due to the College reorganization and change in web page formats.
