WEBMASTERS COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES
Tuesday, July 10, 2001
Adams Room, Physiology
Building
Ms.
Pridgen called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.
Members Present: J. Bethel, T. Harmon,
S. Hilligoss, J. Lenz, C. Moth, E. Napier, M. Pridgen, J. Riegel, C. Schmer,
and L. Tarnoff
Old Business
Presentation
Ms.
Lenz presented an update of the redesign of the College webpage. Committee members liked the new placement of
photographs. Ms. Lenz showed the
differences when the web page was viewed in both Netscape and Explorer. Committee members asked whether the green
toolbar could be rendered in gradations of green, if the edges of the
photographs could be softened and if a JavaScript code could be installed
telling people that their browser won't allow them to view the page and
redirect them. Ms. Lenz will work on
that and the second-level pages.
College Logo
Potential
College logos were distributed to the committee for review. Two logos were chosen for web purposes--the
dog and the stylized caduceus. Ms. Lenz
will make a watermark of each to show to the committee next month.
Reorganizing Service and Research
Centers Links
Ms.
Moth presented a restructuring of the Service and Research Links for the
revised web page. It had been
determined that the categories were too large for new format. Three links were suggested instead of the
one--Centers and PRSE, Research and Outreach/Service. Placing links into categories was determined by reading their web
pages. Ms. Tarnoff will check with Dr.
Nett to determine the importance of distinguishing between the Centers and
PRSEs.
In
addition, several "orphans" that did not belong in the three
aforementioned links and their new locations were discussed. The reorganization is attached to the
minutes.
Committee
members discussed the title for a computing link--Computer Support and
Computing were suggested. Computing was
the favorite. In addition, it was felt
that WebCT should appear at the top of the page on the toolbar since users are
not browsing through the website; they have a specific destination.
The
meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m. The
next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, 2001, 9:00 a.m. in W01
Anatomy.
