Suggestions from CSU Assistive Technology Resource Center

Two suggestions given by the Assistive Technology Resource Center related to the College Website were addressed. Ms. Lenz completed the alternative method for rotating the image so it is more reader-friendly. She showed committee members two optional backgrounds to address the issue of the occasional difficulty of reading on a white background. The committee agreed to leave the background as it is right now; hopefully users can adjust their screens to accommodate the white background.

Validators

Bobby--Ms. Lenz demonstrated the Bobby page and will explore whether it will validate the whole site or if we have to submit each page individually.

W3C--This is another accessibility validator which is believed to be more thorough than Bobby. It also provides some valuable accessibility links.

Web Tools

Photoshop offers a tool where one can see how a page and/or picture shows up on a variety of computers and browswers. This is a zipped file.

Ms. Lenz also drew the committee's attention to a website that can assist the designer in making a page that is printable.

In addition, a new browser, Opera, which is gaining in popularity requires that our left side of the page links need to be aligned left to comply.

Janine Gentile and Joe Strecker are new to the College in the Instructional Technology/Network Services areas. We will invite them to a future meeting to hear about their areas of responsibility.

Reciprocal Link Request

Since a number of members had reviewed the site, the committee spent little time rejecting the request for a reciprocal link with Arthrix. Ms. Lenz will advise them of our decision and ask that our link be removed from their site.

Election

Ms. Pridgen and Ms. Lenz were nominated for the position of chair for this coming academic year. Both accepted the nominations. The committee voted by paper ballot and Ms. Pridgen will serve as chair for the coming year. Committee members thanked Ms. Lenz for her dedication and hard work during her year as chair.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 9:00 a.m.. Ms. Tarnoff will take minutes in the absence of Ms. Moth.
