First Aid for Cats & Dogs
FIRST AID FOR CATS & DOGS Do you know what to do in the case of a medical emergency
involving your cat or dog? Your actions in a critical situation can play an
important part in your pet’s survival of a medical emergency. The
Student Chapter of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society
(SVECCS) at CSU is offering a first aid program to instruct pet owners on how
to handle emergency situations as well as how to safely manage pet care and
transport on the way to the veterinary clinic. Topics covered include pet
CPR, bandaging, common poisons, insect stings, snakebites, trauma and heat
stroke. Although this class is not intended to take the place of proper
veterinary care, it will help the pet owner manage emergency situations
effectively to increase the chance of survival before the pet arrives at the
veterinary clinic. The 6-hour class will be a combination of lecture and labs
presented by CSU veterinarians and veterinary students.
We will also be selling animal
first aid kits for $30 at the seminar. They will include most items
needed to handle a basic emergency, as well as a list of normal values
(temperature, heart rate, etc.) for cats and dogs. These can be pre-ordered
at the time of registration and picked up at the class or purchased at the
class. To
