CVMBS Partnership with RDSVS

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has a sister school partnership with the Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland.  The "Sister School" student exchange program was established to provide an opportunity for senior students to experience clinical rotations and research programs at a veterinary school in another country. Third year DVM students are eligible to apply in their Junior year to later participate as seniors in the student clinical rotation exchange program at RDSVS. First and second year DVM students may apply for the summer research program.

Program Information

• Clinical rotations are four weeks at the RDSVS for up to five senior DVM students. View this list of possible clinical rotations from the RDSVS program.
• Participants can not be awarded credit from the RDSVS; however, CSU may award academic credit for participation in the rotations as allowed by College guidelines. For instance, it may be possible to receive academic credit for the RDSVS clinical rotations under the "Special Projects" curricular mechanism. Allowable credits must be approved by the Associate Dean for the DVM Program (Dr. Hellyer).
• Each participant is responsible for going through the procedures established by the host country and through international student exchange procedures outlined by CSU and the CVMBS.
• Deb Liptak (DVM Student Rotation Coordinator) has agreed to work directly with candidates to make sure you have at least one additional week away from clinic duties at the CSU VTH before or after the exchange so that you may take associated vacation (if desired).
• Depending on available funding, the CVMBS has budgeted to provide a travel stipend of $2,000 each for up to five positions to help with travel and housing. There will be no associated tuition charges or fees. All additional costs must be covered by the participating students.
• Housing options in and around Edinburgh may include staying with students, a host family, or finding your own housing (most CSU students exchange housing directly with the RDSVS students coming to Fort Collins).
• Estimated costs are estimated in US dollars. Be sure to check the currency exchange rate:
  • Round trip flight $1,300
  • Passport $100
  • Visa $500
  • Housing (swap $0; rent $450/month; depends on option you select)
  • Meals $15-30 (dining out)
  • Additional travel, sightseeing, etc – determined by student
• If you are accepted, you will be required to attend several orientations and submit the required forms.
• If you are selected as a participant, you may want to start planning your trip.

Application Process

Our application, for the Class of 2013 graduating DVM students, is currently closed. Applications are available in October/November to 3rd year DVM students who hope to particiapte in the program as seniors. Students are notified of acceptance by mid-November.
