Training

Specialized Biodefence Training Group

The goal of the RMRCE Specialized BioDefence Training Group program is to partner with the Colorado State Animal Response Team, SART, to increase human and animal health and safety and awareness by developing and implementing a "train-the-trainer" program that will facilitate the education of target audiences regarding zoonotic diseases throughout the region.

Zoonoses In the News

Avian influenza (AI) is a naturally occuring avian flu among birds. Most cases of avian influenza infection in humans are thought to have resulted from direct contact with poultry infected with the avian flu or surfaces that were contaminated with the avian flu. Although avian influenza typically does not infect humans, there is still a lot to learn about how different subtypes and strains of avian influenza virus might affect humans.

An avian flu fact page is avalible at http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/health/health_1181.html .

For current information on Avian Flu link to CDC, the OIE or to the Official Federal site www.pandemicflu.com.

The USDA has a Biosecurity page for poultry owners; www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/birdbiosecurity/
Information for Colorado Hunters, Poultry Owners, and Veterinarians is avalible at www.coloradobirdhealth.org , they also have a PDF Brochure on The Bird Flu and You .

Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) is a progressive neurological disorder of cattle that results from infection by an unconventional transmissible agent termed a prion. Evidence indicates that BSE has been transmitted to humans causing a variant form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. For more information on BSE link to CDC or to OIE
