Degrees
- BS, California Institute of Technology, 1982
- DVM, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, 1986
- Post Doctoral Fellowship, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, 1987-90
Research Interests
- The laboratory of Dr. VandeWoude studies the biology of lentiviral agents of nondomestic cats in comparison to FIV infection in domestic cats. Her studies include examination of the molecular biology, pathology and immune effects of these infections in their native hosts and a domestic cat model. These investigations evaluate the role these agents may play in conferring immunity against virulent FIV in domestic cats, and the mechanisms involved in host:lentiviral adaptation. Dr. VandeWoude also investigates diseases and management practices in laboratory animal/comparative medicine. Dr. VandeWoude is a Diplomate in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and is Associate Professor of Comparative Medicine. She is directing development of a comparative medicine post doctoral residency/training program that began enrolling students in July 2002.
