Research Interests
- Dr. Norrdin investigates skeletal diseases. He is interested in spontaneous diseases of animals and experimentally induced diseases as models for human diseases. Most of his current work deals with the bone remodeling response to mechanical stimulation and the pathogenesis of bone fragility and failure. This work involves the study of bones and joints in equine athletes. Dr. Norrdin is attempting to correlate the pathology seen in spontaneous or experimentally induced disease with cellular and tissue level changes. For this work, he uses a variety of techniques that range from computerized histomorphometry for dynamic studies of remodeling rates to biomechanical and biochemical analyses to characterize the pathogenesis of bone changes. Other work in Dr. Norrdin's laboratory focuses on evaluation of agents to enhance bone healing or prevent bone loss in experimental models.
