BIOLOGY OF DISEASE VECTORS

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation provided core support for research conducted at the eight institutions that comprised the Network on the Biology of Parasite Vectors from 1991 to 2000 including Colorado State University, led by Drs. Barry Beaty, and Bill Marquardt (Prof. Emeritus of Biology). The Network has been a major force in the emergence of the field of molecular vector biology and in the training of a new generation of scientists to combat diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Chagas disease, trypanosomiasis, and leishmaniasis.

The research activities in the Network and its annual workshop, the Biology of Disease Vectors Course, spurred its leaders to write and publish the first comprehensive book on molecular vector biology - Biology of Disease Vectors. The second edition is in production and will be available in early 2005 published by Academic Press. Editors Bill Black and Bill Marquardt are accepting donations to provide the book to researchers in disease endemic countries. Donations can be made to the CSU BDV Textbook Fund, c/o Nancy DuTeau, BDV Course Organizer, Micro Immuno & Path, 1682 Campus Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80523.
