Who Are We?
Educators
MIP is the only department in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences that offers educational opportunities for
undergraduate,
graduate and
residency/phd students.
Many of our faculty particpate in the education of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Microbiology degree programs. We have over 20 faculty that are board certified pathologists in clinical pathology, anatomic pathology and comparative medicine, who participate in the training of Veterinary Residents and provide critical instruction to students enrolled in the Professional Veterinary Medical Program.
Check out our Education page to learn more about these programs.
Researchers
Home to some of the finest biomedical research centers in the nation, students have unequaled opportunities to to work in research laboratories and contribute to some of the most important research work being done today.
Regional Center of Excellence (RCE)
The RCE for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases research and training is becoming established at Colorado State University's Foothills Campus. Visit the RCE Website to learn more about it.
Mycobacterial Research Laboratories
Eighteen MIP faculty members are associated with the Mycobacteria Research Laboratory (MRL) and participate in a wide variety of independent and collaborative research programs. The MRL research team is comprised of more than 100 research personnel, including Research Scientists, Post-Doctoral Fellows, Students, and Research Associates.
Arthropod-borne and Infectious Diseases
Thirty researchers concentrate on the prevention, diagnosis, and control of mosquito-borne encephalitis, yellow fever, dengue, hantaviruses, parasitic diseases, and Lyme disease. Researchers at this facility interact with local laboratories of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dr. Kenneth Olson, Director.
See the Research page for more information about the research we conduct.
Service
Many faculty members and students are involved with the community by bringing supplemental science and education into local schools.
Several MIP faculty members are involved with the
Integrated Livestock Management Program (ILM)
which provides creative solutions for the challenges that face the livestock industries through research, dissemination of valuable information, and training highly skilled personnel.
The
Leprosy Research Support Group identifies new diagnostic tools every year for the detection of early signs of leprosy infection, diagnosis of sub-clinical disease and to monitor transmission of leprosy.
Faculty and Veterinary Residents of MIP provide diagnostic service through the
James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital,
Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory offers services in bacteriology, chemistry/toxicology, clinical pathology, endocrinology, immunology, parasitology, pathology, serology and virology.
