The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology offers an exciting graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines. Our training programs in bacteriology, virology, molecular genetics, immunology, vector biology and pathobiology will not only provide you with a strong foundation in a selected discipline, but also involve research in progressive areas such as emerging infectious diseases, biosecurity, interdisciplinary/systems biology and translational medicine. Students are admitted to our program as graduate teaching assistants (GTA) or graduate research assistants (GRA). Course work is generally completed in the first two years of study. Rotations provide ample opportunities to identify an optimal laboratory in which to conduct original research. In consultation with your faculty research advisor, you will form a graduate committee to develop your program of study and keep you on course towards your training goals. Our graduate student seminar series is offered to assist you in developing vital communication skills to augment your scientific training. Overall, our training programs are designed to prepare you for a teaching or research career at an academic institution, in industry or in government.
