Basic Photo Editing Workflow

We’ll explore a basic workflow for making digital photographs look better in Photoshop. With Photoshop’s vast array of tools and multiple ways to do the same thing, the answer to what to do when in Photoshop is not black-and-white.

Each image needs different corrections depending on the look you want and what you plan to do with the final product. However, there are general steps that should be done in a certain order.

We’ll go through the basic workflow multiple times with different images, applying various techniques as needed to accommodate the unique needs of each image. This basic workflow will provide you with a framework for approaching your own editing needs.

You are encouraged to submit digital photographs to be considered for the demonstrations. The presenter is her 8th year supporting the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Photoshop users.

Creative Techniques

Feel as though you don’t have a creative bone in your body? Photoshop can help turn your ordinary digital photos into something extra-ordinary. Sit back and enjoy watching some creative techniques demonstrated live in Photoshop.

Demonstrations include built-in features to give you a hand such as panorama stitching, turning a photo into a painting, sepia toning, hand-tinting, blend modes, fun with filters and more. A handout with links to online step-by-step tutorials will be distributed for future reference.

You’ll want to revisit digital photos you’ve taken in the past to create dazzling digitally manipulated images of your own. The presenter has a passion for learning and sharing Photoshop techniques and will share some of her recent personal creations.

This is open to anyone who wants to learn to creatively alter their digital images in Photoshop, from beginners to advanced. Especially for beginner consumer-end point-and-shoot digital camera users.

Hands-on Fun

Have hands-on fun with Photoshop, the world’s most-loved digital imaging program! This is for all levels of Photoshop expertise and especially for attendees from the PDI sessions “Photoshop Basic Workflow” and/or “Photoshop Creative Techniques” who want hands-on time in Photoshop.

In the first half you will be guided through a basic photo editing workflow and a handful of creative techniques through a series of step-by-step exercises. In the second half we will have “request time” where you can request a certain technique for the group to work through together.

Some familiarity with Photoshop is helpful. If preferred, you are welcome to bring your own battery-powered laptop with Photoshop.
