Dr. Dean Hendrickson Takes Over as Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Dr. Dean Hendrickson, Director for the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching HospitalDr. Dean Hendrickson, who has served as Acting Director of the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital since June, 2008, has been named permanently to the position as of Oct. 1, 2008.

A Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences, Dr. Hendrickson is a board-certified surgeon working primarily in equine surgery. He had previously led the Equine Hospital Section in addition to serving as interim hospital director from December 2006 to July 2007.

“During the past few months, Dr. Hendrickson has shown strong leadership at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, reflected in his decisiveness, financial acuity, and positive communication skills,” said Dr. Lance Perryman, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. “Under his leadership, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital will continue to make strides as we face the challenges of the coming year and look for new opportunities to make the hospital stronger than ever.”

Dr. Hendrickson joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 1994, coming to CSU from the University of Wisconsin. His practice and research specialties include minimally invasive surgery (including laparoscopy, arthroscopy, flexible endoscopy and laser surgery), wound care, and foot diseases. He also has had the opportunity to work on many mega-vertebrates including black and white rhinos, elephants, and hippopotami. He has traveled to Africa several times to teach and conduct surgical birth control targeted to African elephants in areas of overpopulation.
