The Fast and The Furriest Set for April 19Runners and walkers of all ages and their animal companions are invited to participate in the 5th Annual The Fast and The Furriest run/walk on Saturday, April 19, to help raise funds for animals needing emergency and life-saving treatments. The Professional Veterinary Medical Classes of 2009 and 2011 will host the race to benefit the Companion Care Fund at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In addition to the companion animal fund, a portion of the proceeds will go toward the PVM Class of 2009’s scholarship endowment.
The 5K race begins at 9 a.m., and the 1K race begins at 10 a.m., both starting behind the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Racers will make their way along a scenic course and then enjoy food, music and entertainment provided by local sponsors, donors and volunteers. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest human finishers as well as to the most unique animal race finishers. There will also be chair massages, a jumping castle and chances to win great raffle prizes, including a weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Pre-race registration is available at the Runners Roost, 902 West Drake, 970-224-9114; Foot of the Rockies, 150 Harmony Road, 970-377-8005; online at www.active.com. You also can register on-site race day (registration is $30 adults, $22 with student ID and $10 for children 6 and older). E-mail inquiries to fastandfurriest@gmail.com.
The Companion Care Fund offers financial assistance to clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital who have an animal in need of emergency or immediate life-saving care. The fund is entirely need-based and is reserved solely for members of the community. Without the financial assistance provided by the fund, many clients would be faced with the difficult choice of declining care for their animal or relinquishing ownership. The Companion Care Fund provides hope for both owners and their animals in need. Last year, The Fast and the Furriest raised $10,000 for the Companion Care Fund.
If you are unable to race but would still like to make a donation, visit www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/development and select “The Fast and the Furriest” from the Current Events” list to donate online.
