On Saturday, April 21, the Professional Veterinary Medical Class of 2009
will host the fourth annual "Fast and the Furriest," a 5K/1K
run-walk fundraiser to benefit the Companion Care Fund and the PVM Class
of 2009's scholarship endowment. The event will take place behind the James
L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at 300 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins.
The Companion Care Fund offers financial assistance to clients of the James
L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital who have an animal in need of emergency
or immediate life-saving care. The fund is entirely need-based and is reserved
solely for members of the community. Without the financial assistance provided
by the fund, many clients would be faced with the difficult choice of declining
care for their animal or relinquishing ownership. The Companion Care Fund
provides hope for both owners and their animals in need.
Activities on race day include a dog demonstration by Search and Rescue
Dogs of Colorado. Hot air balloon rides are also on tap. Pre-race registration
is $22 adults, $20 students, and $10 for children 6 and older. Children
under 6 are free. Registration includes a T-shirt, awards for a variety
of categories (including furriest pet finisher), music, food, race give-aways,
entertainment, hot air balloon ride, and chances to win raffle prizes.
