CVMBS Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences welcomes the following new faculty and staff members to the University community. We wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors at the College.

Department of Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Scott Earley
Dr. Scott Earley has joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Early comes to Colorado State University from the University of Vermont College of Medicine where he was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology.

After graduating from the University of Maine with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1986, Dr. Early attended the University of Maine where he completed his master's degree in microbiology (1988). He then completed his PhD in biomedical sciences at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (2002). After completing his PhD, Dr. Early was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Vermont. Dr. Early's current grant support is from the American Heart Association Scientist Development Grants, "Functional Significance of TRP Channels in Endothelium-Dependent Cerebral Artery Dilation.

Lora Sonday
Lora Sonday joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences on Jan. 17 as an Accounting Tech III. She comes to the Department from the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State. Sonday's responsibilities include accounting for faculty in the physiology facility.

Sonday is a Fort Collins native who enjoys reading and movies. She is married with no children, but has a poodle named Rocky and a cockatiel named TJ.

Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology

Hee Jin Kim
Hee Jin KimHee Jin Kim joined the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology on Feb. 23 as a Research Associate III in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Brennan, under Dr. John Spencer. She comes to MIP from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State. Her primary responsibilities include research in the tuberculosis and leprosy research programs in the areas of microbial genetics and physiology, genome analysis and protein expression.

When not working in the laboratory, Kim enjoys sewing, gardening, origami, pencil drawing and surfing the Web to teach herself Photoshop and Dreamweaver tips. She is married and has a 13-month old daughter.

Dr. Shuhui Wang
Dr. Shuhui WangDr. Shuhui Wang joined the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology on March 1, coming to Colorado State from the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine. She is a postdoctoral fellow conducting research on the West Nile virus in the laboratory of Dr. Tian Wang.

Her husband, Shusong Zheng, is a PhD student in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. They are both originally from China and are looking forward to making new friends in Fort Collins.

Summer Stec
Summer StecSummer Stec joined the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology on March 6 as a Research Associate I in the laboratory of Dr. Tian Wang. She comes to the Department after completing her undergraduate degree in microbiology at CSU in December 2005. Her primary responsibilities include research on the West Nile virus, and lab management and maintenance.

Stec, who is originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, enjoys painting and playing French horn. She and her husband, Jarod, share their home with their dog, Montanna.
