Search Begins for New Hospital Director

The search is underway to select a new director of the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Martin Fettman, currently an Associate Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, will serve as interim director until his planned retirement from Colorado State University in December 2006.

Dr. David Lee, who has served as hospital director since 2003, has taken a new position at the University of Minnesota.

"We wish Dr. Lee the best of luck at the University of Minnesota, and hope he and his family are able to enjoy a smooth transition to their new locale," said Dr. Lance Perryman, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Before the search began, the South Campus Resource Utilization Board and the Hospital Board met with CVMBS leadership to give an overview of Hospital needs, and provided input on how to structure the new position and best conduct the search. Faculty and staff also provided input during a luncheon sponsored by the Office of the Dean. The Dean then named a search committee that began its work on May 18.

"We've made the decision to change the leadership of the hospital back to the model used before, where the hospital director functions as the medical chief of staff and a hospital administrator sees to the budget, human resources and information technology," said Dr. Perryman. "This frees up the director to focus on medical services, client communication, faculty relations and curricular development."

Dr. Paul Lunn, Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, is chairing the search committee, with the two searches being staggered so the new director will be able to have input in the hiring of the new hospital administrator.
