Annual Fast and Furriest Fun Run Slated for April 22
Runners and walkers of all ages and their animal companions are invited to participate in the third annual The Fast and The Furriest 5K/1K fun run on Saturday, April 22, at Colorado State University 's Veterinary Medical Center. Race day registration opens at 7:30 a.m. The 5K race begins at 9 a.m., and the 1K race begins at 10 a.m.
Racers will make their way along a scenic course and then enjoy food, music and entertainment provided by local sponsors, donors and volunteers. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest human finishers as well as to the most unique animal race finishers. Last year, prizes were awarded to animal athletes including a pet rat, a goat and a 6-foot-long snake. More than 450 participants are expected to enjoy this year's race as well as other event attractions including a raffle, demos by amazing animal athletes, give-aways and an expo of student clubs and services.
Dollars raised from the race support Colorado State University 's Companion Care fund, which reduces the financial burdens that may keep pet owners from otherwise seeking veterinary treatment for their animals. The fund is need-based and reserved for members of the local community. Organizers have set a goal to generate more than $7,000 for the fund. Additional proceeds will go toward a scholarship endowment for students enrolled at Colorado State 's veterinary school.
