CVMBS Faculty and Staff Take to Trails, Roads and Waterways in Racing EventsIronMan Triathlon Congratulations to Dr. Diana Hassel, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences, for her successful swimming/biking/running of the Ford IronMan World Championship triathlon event held Oct. 15 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The IronMan consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run (full marathon distance). Dr. Hassel completed the course in a time of 10 hours, 14 minutes and 17 seconds. Out of 1,743 total competitors and 1,688 finishers, she placed 490th overall and took second place – out of 64 women -- in her age group. By the way, the oldest finisher was Robert McKeague, 80 years young. Odell Brewing Co. Easy Street Wheat Half Marathon Congratulations to all those from the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology on their running of the East Street Wheat Half Marathon held Sept. 18 in Fort Collins. The half-marathon, 13.1 miles, winds its way along the Poudre River, Spring Creek Trial and through downtown Fort Collins. Two MIP faculty members finished in first place in their age divisions (and have the commemorative Pilsner mugs to prove it). Dr. Patrick Brennan finished first in his age group with a time of 1:59:49. Dr. Carol Blair finished first in her age group with a time of 2:19:06. Other race participants were: • Nicole Ehrhart |
