Biomedical Sciences Welcomes New Professor and Director of ARBL

The Department of Biomedical Sciences welcomed Dr. Thomas (Tod) Hansen on board this summer as a Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Director of the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory.

Dr. Thomas (Tod) Hansen

Dr. Hansen comes to Colorado State University from the University of Wyoming where he was a Professor of Reproductive Biology in the Department of Animal Science. Dr. Hansen had been at the University of Wyoming since 1990, when he left the University of Missouri, where he was a Research Assistant Professor and where he also had been a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Prior to that, he was a graduate research and teaching assistant at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Hansen completed his undergraduate work at Colorado State University, majoring in animal science. He went on to receive his master's degree and doctorate's, both in reproductive physiology, from Texas A&M University. His post-doctorate in molecular biology took him to the University of Missouri.

His research work is centered in four areas: structure and function of pregnancy-associated ubiquitin homolog in the uterus; blood and uterine genomic and proteomic markers for early embryo viability; fetal genomic response to maternal undernutrition during pregnancy; and fetal and maternal genomic response to infection by bovine viral diarrhea virus.

Dr. Hansen is a member of numerous organizations including the American Society for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Animal Science, Gamma Sigma Delta, International Society for Interferon Research, Society for the Study of Reproduction, and the Endocrine Society.
