First Aid Class for Pets Offered April 17

Learn about animal first aid during a six-hour class offered by Colorado State University 's Student Chapter of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. The class will be held on Saturday, April 17, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital, 300 W. Drake Road.

Topics will include pet CPR, bandaging, common poisons, insect stings, snakebites, trauma and heat stroke. Animal first aid is not intended to be a substitute for veterinary care, but the class will help pet owners manage emergency situations effectively to increase the chance of survival prior to arriving at a veterinary clinic.

SVECCS also will be selling pet first-aid kits for $25 that include most items needed to handle basic emergencies as well as a list of normal vital signs, such as temperature and heart rate, for dogs and cats. These can be pre-ordered at the time of registration and picked up or purchased at the class.

The cost for the class is $35 before April 3 and $40 at the door. This does not include the cost of a pet first-aid kit. To register, or for more information, contact Josh Cruz at (970) 407-8222, or e-mail Chap Pratt at csufirstaidcourse03@hotmail.com.
