MIP and ERHS Welcome New Faculty MembersThe Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology, and the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences announce the appointment of three new faculty members. Dr. Brian Foy joins MIP on August 1, and Drs. John Volckens and Jennifer Peel join ERHS, also on Aug. 1. ● Dr. Foy has been at CSU in the Arthropod-borne and Infectious Diseases Laboratory since completing his doctorate at Tulane University. He now joins the University as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Foy graduated from Tulane in 2001 under the interdisciplinary Program of Molecular and Cellular Biology. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Foy has received numerous honors, including participating in the 2000 Biology of Disease Vectors course at CSU. ● Dr. Jennifer Peel comes to CSU from the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, where she served as director of the Air Pollution and Neonatal Episodes of Apnea Study, a direct NIH-funded study of the acute health effects of ambient air pollution on susceptible infants. Prior to her work at Emory University, Dr. Peel was a research assistant at the Prudential Center for Health Care Research, and worked as a data analyst for the Georgia Center for Cancer Statistics. She received her graduate degrees in epidemiology from Emory University, and her undergraduate degree in molecular and cell biology from Pennsylvania State University. ● Dr. John Volckens joins CSU from the Environmental Protection Agency, Environmental Characterization and Apportionment Branch, where he was a postdoctoral research fellow. Dr. Volckens received his doctorate and master’s degrees in environmental engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont. Dr. Volckens has been recognized by several awards and honors, including the Bunker Award for Most Promising Masters Student from UNC, and best paper award from the AIHA Journal. The College welcomes each of these outstanding individuals to Colorado State University and the greater community. We wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors. |
