Professor Emeritus Stuart Young died in Fort Collins on Dec. 5, 2003, at the age of 78. Dr. Young served on the faculty of the Pathology Department from 1964 to 1989. His educational efforts will be remembered and perpetuated by the many veterinary students and pathology resident/graduate students who he taught and mentored. He also will be remembered for his wit, delightful sense of humor, and his careful use of the English language.

Dr. Young was born on Dec. 30, 1925, in Haslington, Cheshire, United Kingdom. He earned the MRCVS degree at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, in 1948. He earned a master's degree in pathology from Michigan State University and a doctorate's degree in pathology from the University of California-Davis in 1963. His areas of specialization were comparative neuro-and ophthalmic pathology. He authored and co-authored numerous publications on a variety of veterinary subjects including infectious and nutritional diseases of sheep, ophthalmic pathology and neuropathology.

Dr. Young is survived by his wife, Irene, who lives in Fort Collins.
