Faculty Honors
Dr. Ted Stashak
Dr. Ted Stashak, a professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences,
recently was honored by the International Equine Veterinarians Hall of
Fame for outstanding contributions to equine care. Dr. Stashak emphasizes
the importance of equine podiatry in his equine work. He is the editor
and major author of the popular book "Adams' Lameness in Horses,"
author of "Equine Wound Management," and editor and major author
of "Horse Owner's Guide to Lameness." Dr. Stashak stresses cooperation
between veterinarians, farriers and horse owners for the good of all concerned,
and Hall of Fame voters noted his willingness to communicate and accept
input from farriers and horse owners. Dr. Stashak has been at Colorado
State University since 1979 and is presently a Professor of Surgery. He
served as Head of Equine Services from 1993 to 2002. Dr. Stashak also
is an alumnus of Colorado State, receiving his master's degree here in
1974.
Dr. Barbara Powers
On Sept. 8, Dr. Barbara Powers will take over as president of the Colorado
Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Powers, who has served the last year
as the CVMA's president-elect, is director of the Colorado State Veterinary
Diagnostic Laboratory. Dr. Powers has been director of the Laboratory
since 1996 and has been an integral part of the expansion of Diagnostic
Laboratory services and its programs. Through her close working relationship
with professional veterinarians throughout the state, and now in her role
as president, Dr. Powers has worked tirelessly to advance the CVMA's mission
to enhance animal health and welfare and the status of the veterinary
profession through advocacy, education, and increased public awareness
of the value of veterinary medicine.
