College Welcomes Two New Faculty MembersThe College would like to welcome two new faculty members to the Department of Biomedical Sciences - Dr. Stuart Tobet and Dr. William A. Horne. Dr. Tobet comes to Colorado State from the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he was an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, and completed graduate work in neural and endocrine regulation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Dr. Tobet has held fellowships, affiliate and associate professorships, and laboratory research positions at Harvard Medical School, the University of Massachusetts, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of New Hampshire. His research focuses on determining the cellular and molecular events underlying the differentiation of regions of the brain that underlie neuroendocrine function. These neuroendocrine structures are important because they regulate behavior and homeostasis and are susceptible to a variety of diseases and syndromes including Kallmann's, Prader-Willi, and Rubenstein-Taybi. Dr. Horne joins Colorado State from North Carolina State University where he was an associate professor in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Horne completed undergraduate studies at Iowa State University, as well as his DVM degree. He completed a residency in anesthesiology and a doctorate's in pharmacology from Cornell University, where he also was an assistant professor. He worked in private industry - Neurex Corporation and Idun Pharmaceuticals - and has practiced small animal and equine veterinary medicine. Dr. Horne's primary research area is pharmacology. His recent research has been directed toward understanding how alternative splicing of voltage-gated calcium channels contributes to diversity in mechanisms of neurotransmitter release. Dr. Horne is a member of the Society for Neuroscience and the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists. |
