Supplies
Needed
- Rope to tie the tail (Baling
twine works well)
-
Obstetrical chains -
These are preferred over rope when traction is required because
they can be cleaned easily.
-
Handles -
These should be able to be placed anywhere along the chains
and should be cleaned easily.
- Fetal extractor (calf jack)-
This can be very useful if used correctly but can also be extremely
dangerous if misused.

- Protective plastic/latex gloves/sleeves
-
Gloves help decrease disease in the animals but also decrease
the exposure to diseases that affect the people assisting the
delivery.
- Clean bucket
- Soap and warm water -
It is important to keep as clean as possible in order to minimize
the introduction of disease causing organisms to the dam and calf.
