Requirements for Admission - Advanced Standing
Applications from students enrolled in colleges of veterinary medicine accredited by the AVMA Council on Education will be considered for acceptance with advanced standing through evaluation of the following factors:
- An open position must be available in the class-level and tuition classification category of the applicant.
- The applicant must meet all prerequisites for admission to the program as a first-year student and possess qualifications that are competitive with currently enrolled students.
- The applicant must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution in which currently enrolled. Credit for coursework receiving a grade less than "C" (2.0) will not be accepted for transfer and the applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in professional studies.
- If the applicant is acceptable and a position is available, placement will be offered in the year and term of the curriculum deemed appropriate after analysis of equivalency of the required courses.
- Advanced placement students will be required to complete a minimum of one year (two full-time semesters) enrolled in the PVM program to be eligible for graduation with the DVM degree.
- As a prerequisite to enrollment (registered for credit and grade) in any PVM course, a student must be admitted to the PVM program. Therefore, the College does not allow a student to enroll in PVM courses for credit to complete the requirements for a degree from another institution or program. Exchange students, currently enrolled in a school of veterinary medicine, will be allowed to participate in a limited number of rotations in the Senior Practicum as space is available to complete special course requirements of their home institution.
