Information for Applicants to the Professional Veterinary Medical (PVM) Program

In fall 2007, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) at Colorado State University (CSU) will admit approximately 134 new students to its professional program in veterinary medicine. When these students become doctors of veterinary medicine, they will have completed a minimum of six years of higher education: two years of preprofessional course work and 4 years of professional studies.

Information for Applicants to the Combined MBA/DVM, DVM/PhD, and MPH/DVM Programs

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) and the College of Business offer a combined 5-year MBA/DVM program. The CVMBS also offers a combined 7-8 year DVM/PhD program. In addition, a 5-year combined Masters in Public Health/DVM Degree is available. To apply for these programs, complete the appropriate section of the Colorado Supplemental Professional Veterinary Medical Program application.

Information about the Food Animal Veterinary Career Incentive Program (FAVCIP).

There are two ways in which applicants can be eligible to apply to the FAVCIP Program: 1) become FAVCIP-certified by meeting the program requirements established by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) at Colorado State University; or 2) provide evidence of experience and desire to pursue food animal industry veterinary careers.

Admission to the Professional Program  

Common National applications are available online through the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). In addition, a Colorado Supplemental Application (available in mid-July each year) to the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is required. ONLINE submission of BOTH applications is REQUIRED. The Colorado Supplemental Application deadline is 5:00pm MDT, October 1, 2007. Both applications may be accessed through links on our website: http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/pvmpro.htm. Exceptions to online submissions require extenuating circumstances. Hardship requests for paper copy submission of either application must be made both to VMCAS and to the Office of the Dean at CSU. Hardship requests must be in writing and should describe why the applicant is unable to submit an online application.

3. Three completed electronic VMCAS reference forms are required by CSU, one from each of the three evaluators listed on the application. Please note that any letter of reference without an accompanying completed, signed VMCAS reference form is considered INCOMPLETE. In fairness to all applicants, the Admission Committee will review no more than three reference forms. VMCAS reference forms are available at the VMCAS website. CSU accepts only electronic LOR's.

Fall 2007 grades must be received in the Office of the Dean at Colorado State University by January 8, 2008, to be considered with the application. If it seems likely that your fall transcripts may not arrive by this date, you may fax your fall unofficial grades to 970-491-2250 as soon as you know them. Please list the name and prefix of the courses, credits (semester or quarter) and grade. Official fall transcripts will be required to document emailed grades prior to an offer of admission. If admitted, applicants must send official spring 2008 transcripts, including all required courses, directly to the Office of the Dean at CSU by July 15, 2008.

If you are an applicant who is enrolled in a graduate program, you must submit a letter (at the time of application submission) to Colorado State from your major advisor or department head indicating approval of your application to the professional program in veterinary medicine and that a satisfactory arrangement has been made regarding your graduate program. In addition, accepted graduate students will be admitted provisionally, pending receipt by July 15, 2008, evidence of completion of, or release from, graduate studies.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required (GRE codes: Dept = 0617, Univ = 4075). Test scores with dates earlier than October 1, 2002, will not be accepted. Applicants will be asked to self-report their scores on the supplemental application. It is the applicant's responsibility to schedule the test early enough so that s/he can enter her/his scores into the supplemental application before the online submission deadline date of October 1, 2007. The applicant must also have GRE send official scores directly to CSU as soon as the test is taken. Official scores will be used to verify all applicant self-reported scores before offers are made.

All foreign transcripts must be processed through one of the following services (one-semester study abroad or semester at SEA courses are exempt from this requirement)

Applicants must contact the service to request an application, complete the application listing the PVM program, Office of the Dean, CSU (see address above) as the recipient, and return it to the service with the required fees and transcripts. The transcript evaluation service will forward its evaluation and grade conversion report to CSU.  Note that this can take up to four weeks to complete after all documents are received. Check with the service(s) for their specific fee structure(s).

Dates to Remember:

June 5, 2007.   VMCAS application available online  

Mid-July, 2007. Colorado Supplemental Application available online.  

September 15, 2007. Any request for substitutions of required courses must be received by the Office of the Dean, CVMBS.  

October 1, 2007. Deadline for all VMCAS and Supplemental applications to be submitted online.  The Colorado Supplemental Application must be submitted online by 5:00pm MDT. Note: this is EARLIER than the 12:00pm EST deadline of the VMCAS application. Official transcripts must be postmarked to: Colorado State University, Professional Veterinary Medical Program,CVMBS Office of the Dean, 1601 Campus Delivery, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1601.    The CSU Supplemental Fee must be postmarked October 1, 2007. Applicants are urged to submit both applications early to avoid web congestion near the deadline.

IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT AN ONLINE COLORADO SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION TO COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY (IN ADDITION TO THE ONLINE VMCAS APPLICATION) BY THE October 1 DEADLINE (5:00pm MDT), YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.  

October 15, 2007. Deadline for most WICHE states to receive completed applications for residency certification of WICHE applicants.  

November 1, 2007. Deadline to email "self-reported" GRE scores - See application instructions.

November 15, 2007. Resolution of tuition classification issues, legal disciplinary items, application fee discrepancies, and receipt of official GRE scores.

Mid-January to Mid-February, 2008. Approximate dates for offers, invitations to interview, and denial of admission.  

February 6-8, 2008. Approximate dates for interviews (select group of Colorado applicants only).  

April 15, 2008. Deadline for response from students who have received offers.  

July 15, 2007.  For students enrolled in spring 2008 classes, one official copy of the final transcript is due in the Office of the Dean, CVMBS.  For students provisionally accepted, evidence of completion of all provisions must be received in the Office of the Dean, CVMBS.  For graduate students provisionally accepted, release from major professor or evidence of completion of graduate program is due.  

August 18-23, 2008. Approximate orientation dates for the 2008 entering class.
