The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate and graduate opportunities, as well as providing a prime environment for research. The two complementary facets of the department allow for an exchange of innovative ideas to create vibrant programs that address pressing needs in environmental health and advance research in radiology.

The Department is home to the Radiological Health Sciences and Cancer Research Program, a University Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence. Other research and service units include the Environmental Health Advanced Systems Laboratory, High Plains Inter-mountain Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, Institute for Rural Environmental Health, and OSHA Consultation Program.

The environmental health component of the Department focuses on the study of potential human health impacts due to interactions between people and their environments. Undergraduates are prepared for careers in areas such as solid and hazardous waste management, disease prevention, and air and water quality management. Graduate students specialize in epidemiology, occupational health, and toxicology. The radiological health section of the Department offers graduate degrees in radiological health sciences and works closely with the Department of Clinical Sciences researching the role radiation plays in abnormal cellular development and cancer. The Department also provides post-graduate and specialty certification in veterinary radiology and radiation oncology.
