Transfer Information at your Starting School
Every college or university has an official office that oversees issues of transfer credits to and from that school. At Colorado State University it is called the Transfer Office and is located within Enrollment Services. A transfer office has the responsibility of evaluating all credits which are submitted for potential transfer. You should consult both your academic advisor and the transfer office at your starting school FIRST when exploring transfer questions or issues.
On-Line Transfer Help at Colorado State University
Colorado State University has created a web based tool to assist students who wish to transfer credits. The following site: http://transfer.org/ is the location of the Transfer Equivalency Source (TES). If your starting school is available in the state drop down menu, you will be able to enter the classes you are taking or wish to take at your starting school and see if they will transfer to CSU AND if those courses have an equivalent course at CSU .
Specific Transfer Help at Colorado State University
If your starting school is not listed within the Transfer Equivalency Source (TES) http://transfer.org/ , you may contact the Transfer Office at Colorado State University for assistance (970) 491 - 7147.
Transfer versus Equivalent Credits
Many credits transfer between institutions but not all credits represent equivalent classes. For example, you may have 4 semester credits in biology that transfer to Colorado State University but your transfer credits for your biology class may not be equivalent to the biology class recommended for preveterinary requirements and/or for your selected major. To determine if your class is equivalent to a CSU preveterinary requirement, look at the course description for the comparable Colorado State course (www.catalog.colostate.edu); then use TES (Transfer Equivalency Source: http://transfer.org/ ) to determine if the course you took is equivalent to that course. If your school or course is not listed in TES, contact the Transfer Office at CSU at (970) 491 - 7147.
Transfer Credits for your Selected Major at Colorado State University
Not all courses accepted for transfer to Colorado State University are accepted with the assurance that they will count toward a specific degree. The departmental requirements for the various bachelors' degrees vary and, therefore, the department determines which courses must be completed to satisfy curriculum requirements. Specific academic departments at CSU may accept or reject courses for major requirements that are accepted by CSU for transfer credits. When you are contemplating transferring to a specific major at CSU , contact the Key Adviser: https://secure.casa.colostate.edu/applications/keyadv/keyAdvList.cfm for that major. It will be extremely useful to have your official transfer evaluation for CSU in hand when you contact your Key Advisor.
Transfer Credits Specifically for Preveterinary Requirements
Preveterinary advisers at Colorado State University cannot be expert in all courses from all institutions from which you may transfer. As a guide, we can provide a list of CSU courses, titles and descriptions that will fulfill our Professional Veterinary Medicine Program's prerequisites. If you plan to transfer to CSU to complete a Bachelors Degree, you can use TES (Transfer Equivalency Source) or our Transfer Office to see if your starting school can offer you a direct course equivalent to the preveterinary required courses.
Coursework Meeting Content Requirements with NO CSU Equivalent Course
Students who earn a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college other than Colorado State University and plan to apply to the Professional Veterinary Medicine Program at CSU may be able to find classes that are the direct equivalent of CSU 's preveterinary requirements. However, it is not necessary to take a course that is a direct equivalent to a course at CSU . To meet the preveterinary requirements, students should:
- If a reasonable person cannot determine that there is a 50% course content similarity between your courses and a preveterinary course at Colorado State , you may initiate a request to DVMAdmissions@colostate.edu and request a course content evaluation. The DVM Admissions Adviser will inform you what information is needed to render a judgment. This formal request should be made only when it is not possible to determine if there is a 50% or greater content similarity between courses in the judgment of a reasonable person.
Converting Quarter to Semester Credits
Colorado State University calculates all class work in semester credits - regardless of whether your transfer credits were originally quarter credits. Most quarter credits can be converted to semester credits by multiplying the quarter credits by 0.67. However, you should always check with the school where you earned the quarter credits for their formula for converting quarter credits to semester credits.
