They include veterinarians in state veterinary offices, state public health offices, Air Force, USDA: AGS, USGS, CDC, USDA:FSIS, USDA:APHIS, Army and U.S. Public Health Service. USDA:FSIS Summer 2006 Program Information http://www.fsis.usda.gov/careers/Veterinary_Student_Employment_Program/index.asp The deadline for Summer of 2006 is now past. However, USDA:FSIS does have a special agreement with CSU to provide volunteer student experiences of from 2-8 weeks in multiple states to our veterinary students. Please contact Ruth.White@colostate.edu for more information about the USDA:FSIS Student Volunteer Program. Students participating in the volunteer program will have an advantage in the selection process for next year's paid summer program.

Colorado does not currently have a veterinarian in the state public health office, but many other states have multiple veterinarians. Please check with Ruth White for assistance in setting up an externship/preceptorship with another state public health office.

Center for Government and Corporate Veterinary Medicine
This center is a national resource for senior veterinary students wanting training opportunities in career fields other than private practice. There are many externship opportunities available through this program. Planning should begin early in your junior year for these opportunities.
