Tetanus Pearls

  • Look for muscle spasms resulting in retraction of the ears and lips, extensor rigidity and previous wound exposure to help with your diagnosis of tetanus.
  • Treat with antitoxin and an antibiotic effective against anaerobes, as well as supportive care.
  • Keep a close eye on patients that appear to be stable following tetanus treatment!
