" Dr. Fettman's principal position is as Associate Dean for the Professional Veterinary Medical Program. He also serves as a clinical pathologist and as the College's clinical nutritionist.
" His research focuses on the pathophysiology of nutritional and metabolic diseases, particularly on adjunct nutritional therapy for cancer patients and management of fluid and electrolyte metabolism. Dr. Fettman was the first veterinarian to travel in space, as a payload specialist for the Spacelab Life Sciences-2 shuttle mission.
" His investigative efforts include projects on:
-Pathogenesis and management of derangements in intermediary metabolism and
bioenergetics of cancer cachexia.
-Alterations in metabolic rate, substrate partitioning, and fluid and electrolyte balance
in critical care patients.
