Graduate Studies in Clinical Sciences

A variety of graduate programs at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels are offered in the Department of Clinical Sciences. The majority of these programs require the doctor of veterinary medicine degree (D.V.M.). However, a limited number of programs (associated with internal medicine and reproduction) occasionally are available for non-veterinarians. All candidaates for the M.S. degree are required to complete either a thesis or at least two scientific publications depending on the degree option. The M.S. program can be combined with a clinical residency to prepare for board certification or it can be exclusively an acedemic degree with no clinical training. The M.S. program without clinical training can usually be completed in two years. The Ph.D. program emphasizes development of the skills and knowledge necessary to perform independent research in clinically relevent areas of veterinary medicine. The Ph.D. program requires a minimum of three years and may not be done with a clinical residency.
