Undergraduate Degree Program

Honors Programs

Two Honors Programs are available to undergraduate majors in the Department of Biomedical Sciences: The University Honors Scholar Option (Track 1) and the Biomedical Sciences Honors Scholar Option (Track 2).

University Honors Scholar Option (Track 1)

Students participating in the University Honors Program as a University Honors Scholar must complete the 23-credit Honors Core Curriculum and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 at the time of graduation.

Integrated Core of Four Interdisciplinary Honors Seminars
  HONR 192, First-Year Seminar 4 credits
  HONR 193, Seminar 3 credits
  HONR 392, Seminar 3 credits
  HONR 492, Senior Seminar 3 credits
 
Honors Thesis or Project
  HONR 399, Honors Pre-Thesis 1 credit
  HONR 499, Senior Honors Thesis 3 credits
   
Two Honors Courses in the Department 6 credits
  Total 23 credits

Two Honors Courses in the Department
1st Honors Course (choose one of the following): BMS 301, BMS 305, BMS 360
2nd Honors Course (choose one of the following): BMS 302H, BMS 325, BMS 365, BMS 420, BMS 430, BMS 450

Please note: Students will be required to Honors-Option the above departmental courses (except for BMS 302H which will be offered as an Honors section in spring semesters).

Biomedical Sciences Honors Scholar Option (Track 2)

Students participating in the University Honors Program as Biomedical Sciences Honors Scholars (Track 2) are required to complete 16-17 credits distributed as follows:

IU 193H, Freshman Seminar (Honors) 1 credit
HONR 399, Honors Pre-Thesis 1 credit
HONR 499, Senior Honors Thesis 3 credits
3-4 Honors courses in major/discipline 12 credits
  Total 17 credits

1. Choose 6 credits from the following:
  BMS 302 H Laboratory in Principles of Physiology -- Honors Section 2 credits

  BMS 305 Domestic Animal Gross Anatomy 4 credits
  BMS 325 Cellular Neurobiology 3 credits
  BMS 360 Fundamentals of Physiology 4 credits
  BMS 365 Nerve and Muscle -- Toxins, Trauma, and Disease 3 credits
  BMS 420 Cardiopulmonary Physiology 3 credits
  BMS 430 Endocrinology 3 credits
  BMS 450 Pharmacology 3 credits
       
2. Choose 6 credits from the following:
  BMS 384 Supervised College Teaching (max 3 cr)
  BMS 487 Internship (max 3 cr)
