Residency at the Equine Reproduction Laboratory

Residents assisting with a difficult birth at the ERLResidency Program in Equine Theriogenology (Reproduction)

Colorado State University offers a 2-year DVM residency program in Equine Theriogenology (Reproduction). Currently, two residents are in the program, with a new resident starting July 1 every year. The residency incorporates the following:

  1. Clinical reproduction in mares and stallions
  2. Foaling out client mares
  3. Assisted reproduction (primary emphasis on embryo transfer; a more limited exposure to oocyte transfer and intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
  4. Active participation in undergraduate, graduate, and professional veterinary medicine teaching
  5. Continuing education to horse owners and veterinarians
  6. Active participation in at least one research project

Resident performing a mare check at the ERLThe Equine Reproduction Laboratory has a long history of incorporating state-of-the-art reproduction techniques into clinical services provided to horse owners. Residents are expected to carry on this outstanding tradition of discovery, service, and education within the equine breeding industry.

  4. Three (3) letters of recommendation
