Institute Training
Institute training opportunities include several non-academic courses for practicing veterinarians and animal health workers. These courses are not available for academic credit.
Foreign Animal Disease Training Course
The Animal Population Health Institute, the Colorado Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian's Office, and the USDA Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health co-sponsored several Foreign Animal Disease Training Courses in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The course is designed to provide veterinarians with current information on a variety of foreign animal diseases that could severely impact the livestock, equine, and poultry industries. Topics include disease recognition, diagnostics, and epidemiology for vesicular diseases, Rift Valley Fever, Rinderpest, Heart Water Disease, Exotic Newcastle Disease, Avian Influenza, Classical & African Swine Fever, and foreign equine diseases.

Basic Epidemiology Training Course
The Animal Population Health Institute and the Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine collaborate with USDA Veterinary Services Professional Development Staff to provide training courses in basic veterinary epidemiology for veterinarians and animal health workers. A limited number of seats are available for non-USDA employees. Contact Dr. Barbara McCarthy for additional information.
Livestock Worker Training
Animal health workers in the dairy industry are able to receive training on a variety of management issues through Dr. Frank Garry's Integrated Livestock Management (ILM) Program in conjunction with Colorado State University's Animal Science Department.
