Institute Outreach
Veterinary epidemiology is a vital discipline with important applications for students, research scientists and a variety of non-academic professionals including veterinary practitioners, producers, animal health workers, government veterinarians, and public health team members.
Animal Population Health Institute faculty members are committed to educating the next generation of students and scientists. Therefore, they strive to provide an academic environment that is conducive to cross-disciplinary study and collaboration. Educational opportunities are available for visiting scientists, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, veterinary students, and undergraduate students.
As part of the Institute's outreach activities, several non-academic training courses are available for practicing veterinary professionals and animal health workers. Moreover, the Institute faculty provide a variety of resource materials for scientists, veterinary professionals, and the general public.
It is evident that infectious animal diseases are a global concern and veterinary medicine has made significant contributions to promoting the health of animals and humans worldwide by combating highly contagious animal diseases, preventing zoonotic disease spread to humans, and contributing to the improvement in the quality of food of animal origin. Using a population based approach to utilize appropriate disease control strategies, Institute faculty engage in outreach activities within the international arena. APHI faculty members, in conjunction with the USDA, APHIS, VS CEAH located in Fort Collins, provide technical advice, expertise and consultation on specific topics and veterinary services to several governments and research institutions.
