18 – 20 November 2014
Fort Collins, Colorado USA
Welcome
The International Workshop on Feral Swine Disease and Risk Management is co-sponsored by:
- USDA APHIS VS Center for Epidemiology and Animal Health (CEAH)
- USDA APHIS National Feral Swine Damage Management Program
The workshop has been developed and is implemented in coordination with three OIE Collaborating Centres:
- USDA APHIS VS CEAH, an OIE Collaborating Centre for Animal Disease Surveillance Systems, Risk Analysis and Epidemiological Modelling;
- USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC), an OIE Collaborating Centre for Research and Diagnosis of Emerging and Existing Pathogens of Wildlife;
- The Animal Population Health Institute (APHI) of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, a FAO Reference Center for Veterinary Epidemiology and Animal Surveillance Systems.
Purpose & Goals
The purpose of the workshop is to assess the current status of free-ranging swine diseases in a One Health context and explore disease management options (including limitations) in both domestic and global free-ranging swine and boar populations.
The workshop goals are to establish working relationships with international experts on feral swine ecology and epidemiology that can be leveraged through projects initiated through the USDA APHIS National Feral Swine Program and produce a publication for the OIE that integrates free-ranging swine disease status and management options to identify critical information needs, knowledge gaps and aid the operational implementation of a disease control program.
