The Animal Population Health Institute within the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University is pleased to announce its fourth annual five-day training course on foreign animal diseases in Fort Collins, Colorado from July 14 - 18, 2008.

The Foreign Animal Disease Training Course is designed to provide veterinarians with current information on a variety of foreign animal diseases that could severely impact the livestock, equine, and poultry industries. The training aims to prepare practicing veterinarians within the United States to be first responders in the event of the introduction of a foreign animal disease.
Course topics include disease recognition, diagnostics, and epidemiology for vesicular diseases, Rift Valley Fever, Rinderpest, Heart Water Disease, Exotic Newcastle Disease, Avian Influenza, Classical & African Swine Fever, and foreign equine diseases. Presentations concerning zoonoses, carcass disposal, animal emergency response, personal protective equipment, and Arizona's Livestock Response Team are scheduled.
Course topics will be discussed by a variety of experts in their respective fields including Dr. Corrie Brown of the University of Georgia, Dr. Kristy Pabilonia of Colorado State University, Dr. Peder Cuneo of the University of Arizona, and specialists from both the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory on Plum Island and other Programs and Centers within APHIS.
Training course sponsors include the Colorado Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Industry, Animal Population Health Institute, and USDA APHIS Centers for Epidemiology & Animal Health.
The registration fee, continental breakfasts & lunches during the course, and five-nights of lodging in the designated block of rooms at the course hotel are provided and are not a cost to the registered participant.
