Administrative Core

Description:

The role of the Administrative Core is to establish and provide overall management, coordination, direction, and administration for the Region VIII Rocky Mountain RCE.

The associate directors, management staff, and chairs of the subcommittee assist the Director in the following functions:

(1) the development of policies governing RMRCE operations;
(2) oversight of research projects and core facilities;
(3) management of financial resources;
(4) preparation of reports and record keeping;
(5) coordination of outreach and education activities;
(6) issuing RFAs and review of new and continuing applications;
(7) facilitation of the annual strategic planning process.

In addition to the five Subcommittees, management of the RMRCE is subject to three review bodies composed of principle investigators, and leaders from government, university and industry with scientific expertise in biodefense research:

(1) the Management and Oversight Committee (MOC),
(2) the Scientific Steering and Review Committee (SSRC),
(3) the Region VIII Program Guidance Committee (PGC).

Collectively these governing bodies provide guidance on product development, facilities development, regulatory affairs, IP-related and budgetary issues. The Administrative Core is committed to strengthening the regional scientific infrastructure to address biodefense needs, and hence a major priority is to enhance communication with consortium partners, and integrate resources throughout the RCE network using advanced information technology, teleconferencing, and the website.
