February 2005

Update from the Dean’s Office

Dear Friends,

January has been a busy month with the on-going search for the Vice President of Administrative Services, University Strategic Planning Process continuing, and the University and College budget planning process underway.
Lance Perryman

First up, we are making progress in the search for a new Vice President for Administrative Services. In mid-February, we will be bringing our four top candidates to Fort Collins for campus interviews. Each candidate’s schedule will be posted to E-Comment for your review. I encourage interested people to attend the open fora and ask questions of the candidates. Please feel free to send me your comments by February 28.

The University and College Budget planning process got off to a strong start on Wednesday, Jan. 26, when the Council of Deans met to discuss and prioritize budget requests from each college. This is the first step in determining our budget for the next fiscal year. I think that it’s important to note that, unlike the previous two years, the deans are not being asked at this time to plan for any budget reductions.

As to the University Planning Process, there is a related story in this edition of E-Insight, but the final task force reports are due Feb. 15. This will be posted to the University web site and I want to encourage all faculty, staff and students to review the document and get back to me with any concerns or suggestions. A complete copy of the Strategic Plan is available at http://www.president.colostate.edu/strategicplanning/. I also am working on a parallel College Strategic Plan and will be looking for comments on that as well. That document will be posted to the College’s web site when the first draft is complete.

This month, I’ll be attending the Western Veterinary Medical Conference in Las Vegas Feb. 20-24. We have a number of our faculty who are attending and giving presentations, and the College will be hosting an alumni reception.

I hope everyone has a great month and I look forward to hearing from you, or visiting with you, soon.

With Best Regards,

Lance Perryman, DVM, PhD
Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
