College Clarifies Shelter Use Policy
Questions arise from time to time regarding the use of shelter animals in the College’s teaching and research programs. The College does not use shelter animals in its research or teaching programs, except in cases where shelters have asked the College to provide medical care for an animal and provision of this care provides a real-case learning opportunity for veterinary students.
To clarify the College’s position on the use of shelter animals, we have made available at the College’s web site a publication that clearly defines the College’s policies. To view this document, go to www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/animaluse.html and click on Shelter-Derived Animal Use for Research and Teaching.
